U7 Once a Week (1W)

CHA is pleased to offer a once a week U7 program for 2019-2020

This program is targeted for 4, 5 or 6 year olds who are interested in a learn to skate program in a hockey environment. As this will be once a week, the program is designed to teach introductory skating and hockey skills from the 1st year of the U7 Program.

Your child does not need to know how to skate to participate in this program. Full hockey gear including a mouth guard is mandatory.

To make the program as family friendly as possible, it will be offered from September 15, 2019 to March 8 2020. There will be no sessions on Thanksgiving weekend or during the Christmas and New Year’s timeframe. The exact time and day will be communicated to parents by the U7 director, Joanne Lutfy.

Please follow the registration process for new players here

Please contact the U7 Director  at ipdirector@canterburyhockey.ca  for more information about the program.  Contact the registrar Phil Johnson for questions pertaining to registration: registrar@canterburyhockey.ca

HELPFUL HINTS:

1. Each child MUST have ALL of the REQUIRED EQUIPMENT to get on the ice: http://canterburyhockey.ca/page.php?page_id=43513.

2. Each child MUST wear a MOUTH GUARD to get on the ice (no exceptions).

3. Please make sure your child GOES to the bathroom before getting on the ice...and it works best before they get their equipment on.

5. Make sure your child's HOCKEY STICK is TAPED and EASILY IDENTIFIABLE for your child. Use white or coloured hockey stick tape, write their name on it, their initials, something so they know its theirs. Sticks stay outside of the change rooms.

6. Put a first NAME LABEL on at your child's HELMET. We have name labels for the new players.

7. Players are not allowed on the ice until a coach is on the ice.

8. ARRIVE EARLY to have enough time to get dressed. Someone will be there to let you know which change room to use, or look at the Board to see which change rooms are assigned to us.

9. Only volunteers are allowed on the ice, no other parents.

10. PARENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED AT or NEAR THE TRAINER'S BENCH. If your child has trouble with their equipment, has a runny nose, gets hurt, etc. they will be directed to the trainer who is trained to take care of the situation. If the trainer needs the parent, they will call you over. When parents wander over there uninvited, it is very distracting for the child and the trainer. Please respect this.
