U7 Trainer's Role

Trainers
Hockey Trainers perform an important role in the CHA. In fact, every team in the CHA must have at least one certified trainer, and the trainer must be present every time the team takes to the ice! CHA will reimburse all Trainers for the cost of obtaining a Trainers certificate and will provide the necessary First Aid Kit to the Trainers. Trainers are responsible for the safety and well-being of all players on the team. In addition to providing First Aid to injured players, Trainers are required to perform a number of tasks, including:
  • Creating and implementing an Emergency Action Plan (EAP);
  • Checking for proper maintained and fitting equipment of all players;
  • Ensuring that medical “Return to Play” Certificates are obtained before allowing injured players to return to the ice;
    Checking for dangerous situations (ice surfaces, boards, dressing room, arena);
  • Setting and ensuring a proper standard of sportsmanlike behaviour by players, coaches, and parents;
  • Assisting in the education of players and other participants about risk management policies and procedures;
  • Keeping accurate records of any injuries, no matter how small.
  • Trainers in minor hockey are certified by the Hockey Trainers Certification Program (HTCP). Credentials must be maintained by regular re-certification and ongoing education. For more information on Trainer Clinics please refer to: Ottawa District Hockey Association. Cost for ODHA Clinics will be reimbursed by the CHA Treasurer.
